Have you heard of Rickrolling? According to Wikipedia, Rickrolling or a Rickroll is an internet meme involving the unexpected appearance of the music video for the 1987 song “Never Gonna Give You Up”, performed by the English singer Rick Astley.
The meme is a type of bait and switch, usually using a disguised hyperlink that leads to the music video. When victims click on a seemingly unrelated link, the site with the music video loads instead of what was expected, and they have been “Rickrolled”. The meme has also extended to using the song’s lyrics, or singing it, in unexpected contexts.
I decided to rickroll my husband, Rob by converting our bathroom to a shrine of Rick Astley. Rob is a huge Rick Astley fan and will never skip the opportunity to Rickroll a friend or foe.
Check out the video of us pranking him that I posted on TikTok and then get more details on the products I used below:
Let’s take a tour of our new Rick Astley themed bathroom. Most of the items i purchased but I did do a little DIYing.
The shower curtain is actually a tapestry that I attached to the shower curtain I already had. I was looking for shower curtains with Rick Astley printed on them but they were few and far between and also super expensive. This tapestry from Red Bubble was more affordable and easy to pin up for the prank. I can sew it to the shower curtain so it is permanently attached if we decide to keep it up.
Rick Astley Bathroom Accessories
The mug and cosmetics bag are both from Etsy shops. The mug (being used as a tooth brush holder) is from Cute Mug Store and the bag is from Charm City Ink. I’m very please with the quality, customer service and shipping speed of these shops.
The autographed photo is actually from Rick Astley himself. MY husband bought it a couple of years ago from his website when Rick was promoting his latest album (I told you Rob was a big fan!) The soap dispenser is one I already had but I just put a sticker on it. The sticker is from Retro Rad Time Machine, another fantastic Etsy shop. I could have paid a lot more to have a soap dispenser made with Rick’s likeness on it but it was much cheaper and easier to slap a sticker on my current one.
Homemade Art
I laser cut these quotes with my Glowforge printer. I used regular card stock and layered an opposite color under each quote. Then, I slipped them into Dollar Tree picture frames and hung them up.
Rick Astley Clock
I made the clock by pasting a image I printed off and cut out. The clock is originally from IKEA but I bought it at a thrift store. I figured there is no point using a brand new clock for this purpose. You can unscrew the back or the hands from the front and glue the image on.
Bathroom Caddy and Photo
And finally we have the bathroom caddy and photo. The photo is just another one I printed off from my computer and stuck in a dollar store frame. The caddy has a sticker I bought from StraitJack and slapped on the side.
How do you like our Rick Astley themed bathroom? Have you ever rickrolled someone? Let me know in the comments.
